The Broadford Bookworms

Broadford Primary had an extra special start to the new half term by hosting reading sessions where parents were invited to enjoy quality reading time with their children. The parents were beaming with pride seeing their children's love of stories and were provided with information on how to develop their children's comprehension skills at home.

At Broadford we believe that it is essential to foster a love of reading in every child. Reading for pleasure has a staggering impact on children's vocabulary, writing, imagination, well-being and so much more. It was brilliant to see so many parents sharing this love of reading with their children!

I really enjoyed reading with my mum, I especially loved the dictionary treasure hunt!

One parent stated:

It was great to see how to help with comprehension at home.

While another commented:

I think it is a beautiful idea introducing the parent and child reading session. It really helps in the parent's involvement in their child's learning approach.

Overall, it was a great week of celebrating the readers of Broadford! Thank you to all the parents who came and made the sessions even more special. We know the children loved sharing their fantastic reading skills with you and we hope you enjoyed it just as much!

Should you require more support in reading with your child at home, whether it be questioning their comprehension, or supporting them with their phonics knowledge, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher and they will be happy to assist.
