Fact Hunters: Apes & Chickens

Incredibly chicken embryos have been altered so they developed feet like prehistoric dinosaurs. Researchers have found they can change the shape of the birds’ feet as they develop in an egg by stopping the embryo from moving around.

Did you know that there is a Red Panda… which is very different to the Giant Panda? Currently, red pandas live in the Eastern Himalayas. But the first red panda fossil was found a little bit further afield than that — in the United Kingdom!

Amazingly a panda's daily diet consists almost entirely of the leaves, stems and shoots of various bamboo species. Bamboo contains very little nutritional value so pandas must eat 12-38kg every day to meet their energy needs.
