Broadford Marchers Win The Cup!

Do you think you could walk from Romford to Johannesburg South Africa in just five days? Well that is what school staff across Havering have achieved as part of their Winter Walking Challenge. It was the first time a New Year Walking Team Challenge has been held of this size early in the year and it has been a massive success!

Overall 16 School teams entered the walking challenge in combination with the 38 council teams. Collectively the staff managed to walk over 8,000 miles across the 5 days, which is a tremendous achievement!

The winners of the Schools Walking Team Challenge 2015 are Broadford Marchers, from Broadford Primary School who clocked up an average of 44 miles between the team. Broadford Marchers will receive 8 x £20 Liberty Gift Card Vouchers!

"The event has been a great way to encourage us to keep fit. I'm guilty of sometimes getting a lift to work if the weather is cold or wet, but that week I walked every day. I felt much healthier and enjoyed the social aspect of the walking! I'm definitely going to keep this up." Lesley Taylor - Office Manager

"To help staff with their mileage we had a Lunchtime Walking club. Pupils would join in with us as we walked laps around our school adventure trail to clock up the miles on our pedometers. Instead of having meetings stuck at a desk, we would have walking meetings, discussing what we needed to whilst still clocking up the miles. At school we always encourage the children to have healthier lifestyles, so this was a fabulous opportunity to model that for them and inspire the next generation to be walkers too!" Lois Nicholls - Deputy Headteacher

Resilience
Even on the mornings when it was drizzly and wet, I still walked to school and persevered. I couldn't let my team mates down... even if it meant my hair was a bit frizzy. Charlotte Taylor

Reciprocity
Every day we checked to see we had each logged on, entered our miles and completed our walk. By constantly encouraging each other we were able to hit a great total. Georgina Barron
