Glide Bikes Have Arrived!

Our pupils have told us - through the School Council - that they would like to develop their cycling skills at lunchtime. Mrs Nicholls has managed to secure funding to help us purchase some new glide bikes which will be a great way for pupils to develop their skills of balance and co-ordination.

Count On Us Launch

We were delighted to launch the Count On Us Maths game with our cluster of schools recently. The children will be practising in their own schools, before coming back together for a competition in the Summer.

Pupils from Mead, Pyrgo, Brookside, Hilldene and St Ursula's all enjoyed an afternoon of maths activities together focused on the game 24.

Our Broadford team will be heading up to London in March to take part in the London wide competition - hopefully qualifying for the finals on the roof of City Hall!

NACE Award

We are delighted to again confirm our membership of the National Association of Able Children in Education. We believe that all pupils should be challenged with their work and thinking so that they make the optimum level of progress.

With provision in class, maths challenges provided weekly, additional teaching sessions, Broadford University and many other approaches as well, we are doing our best to ensure that our More Able Pupils are given a consistently high quality level of challenge.

Dinosaur Fun

Freddie & Conor had a great time at lunch using their resourcefulness muscle to create dinosaurs from the wooden blocks.

Can you work out which dinosaurs they represent?

Brachiosaurus
This is a genus of sauropod dinosaur from the Jurassic Morrison Formation of North America. It was first described by Elmer S. Riggs in 1903 from fossils found in the Grand River Canyon (now Colorado River) of western Colorado, in the United States. Riggs named the dinosaur Brachiosaurus altithorax, declaring it "the largest known dinosaur".

Plesiosaurus
This was a genus of large marine sauropterygian reptile that lived during the early part of the Jurassic Period, and is known by nearly complete skeletons from the Lias of England. Although there are a number of modern-day myths surrounding this order of creature, such as the myth of the Loch Ness Monster, these creatures are known to be extinct. It is distinguishable by its small head, long and slender neck, broad turtle-like body, a short tail, and two pairs of large, elongated paddles.

Palm Class Poetry

Palm have been using the old building as inspiration for their Haiku poetry. How would you describe our old building? How do you think it feels without any children inside?

Cedar's Sharing Assembly

Learning Power Awards:

These are the key skills that our children will need to learn effectively in class and be successful later in life. Libby Northwood, Tyler Wager & Jaydon Holloway have demonstrated effective reciprocity this week – able to listen carefully, work collaboratively and take turns.

Alisha March, Tmi Adelowo, Weronika Harandi, & Martina Rensch have shown that they can manage distractions and notice patterns in their work. Well done for earning your Resilience certificate! Lillie Mersh has both planned carefully, revised her ideas and can talk about her learning which is why she received a Reflectiveness award.

Attendance:

KS1& EYFS: Mulberry 96.67%
KS2: Coconut 96.92%
Overall: 94.14%

Congratulations to Coconut who have topped the league for the last two weeks. They are the runaway leaders so far for this term. Overall we are still below our target, so there is room for improvement. Don’t forget… turn up every day on time!

It's Our World - Art Project

Have a look at the stunning artwork that our pupils have been doing for the 'It's Our World Project'. The idea is that they use natural resources to create a collage based on their local area. This national project aims to get the children to consider sustainability and recycling.

Mrs Caccavale has done a great job of putting the display together - a stunning piece of art to look at as you enter the school!

Young Voices 2015

Pupils from Broadford Primary travelled to the O2 on Monday to perform in the Young Voices choir event.

Young Voices is an organisation designed to unify children from across the regions, boost their confidence and provide lifelong memories for them and their families.

'Our pupils have been practicing the dance routines and learning the songs in their music lessons since September! We have also run an after school club to ensure they were all pitch perfect.'
Lois Nicholls - Deputy Headteacher

Young Voices is the world’s largest children’s choir and has a long standing history spanning 18 years. The spectacular events have featured an impressive array of top talent including Katherine Jenkins, Alexandra Burke & Beverley Knight. Altogether the national event covers London, Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield, giving the opportunity to over 110,000 children all over the UK to participate and enjoy the experience of singing.

'We have found this event to be a marvellous way of showcasing the children's singing and providing them with a truly memorable experience. It also allows our parents to come and take part - hearing 8,500 young voices together is quite an experience!'
Malcolm Drakes - Headteacher
