Reading Awards Explained:

We really want to encourage the children with their wider reading. We have invested heavily in our library resources. Mrs Sparkes is now our full time librarian, we have bought in new books, we have organized trips to the local library and invited in authors and illustrators to speak to the children. All we need now are the rewards to go with that. Please ensure that your children are reading at home at least 4 nights per week. We expect the reading to be recorded in their book and the books they have read noted at the front. We then issue prizes accordingly:

10 books Bronze award

25 books Bookmark

50 books Silver award & £5 voucher
75 books Book prize

100 books Star reader trophy & Gold award

150 books Platinum award & £10 voucher

For older children – who read longer texts – 100 pages is equivalent to one book. A Harry Potter novel could be worth 7 books if there are 700+ pages. Below are the first children to be rewarded under the new system.
